CMCRI has trained hundreds of student peer mediators at area elementary, middle and high schools, throughout Rhode Island and in southeastern Massachusetts. Students receive an initial 15 hour-training in peer mediation and conflict resolution and are then qualified to mediate disputes between other students within their schools. CMCRI provides at least two 32-hour basic mediation trainings annually, generally in the fall and spring. A certificate of completion is issued to all participants, qualifying them under the Rhode Island statute R.I.G.L Sec. 9-19-44 to ensure confidentiality in the disputes they mediate. CMCRI offers discounts to any agency or work place signing up more than two participants for a training class. A limited number of partial and full scholarships are additionally available, in exchange for a commitment to volunteer a certain number of hours with CMCRI. MCRI offers continuing education workshops for mediators throughout the year. A sampling of workshops the center offers includes Human Rights Commission mediation training; domestic violence training; and stipulation writing workshops.
MCRI offers conflict resolution, mediation, meeting facilitation and communication skills seminars for businesses, agencies and organizations, individualized to meet the needs of each particular group. Not-for-profit organizations are charged at a discounted rate. Please call for information about fees and availability.
